How do the BetaGlukan capsules work?

What are beta-glucans?
Already in the 1950s, scientists have discovered for the first time that consuming beta-glucans affects the immune system. They later found that not all beta-glucans are equally effective in this regard, but this mainly depends on their branching. The most effective are those that contain mostly 1.3 and 1.6 glycosidic bonds as in beta-glucans found in fungi. On the other hand, beta-glucans from cereals, which contain mostly 1.3 and 1.4 glycosidic bonds, do not have this effect.
In order to be effective, it is also important that beta-glucans are well purified and do not contain residues of lipids and other sugars.
Why do we need to train our immune system?
The immune response in humans is roughly divided into congenital (non-specific response) and acquired (specific response with antibodies) immune response. Until recently, the existence of immune memory has been considered as merely an acquired immune response, when as a reaction to an infection specific antibodies develop, making us resistant in case of future infections with the same virus/bacteria.
In the last 10 years, however, more and more discoveries have been made about the development of the memory of congenital immune response. The latter develops when the body first encounters viruses and bacteria or their structural parts, resulting in the immune system being “trained” and in the establishment of a state of higher readiness that may last from a few weeks to several months.
A congenital immune system “trained” in such a way responds more quickly and effectively to possible new challenges. Since we have specialized immune cells also in the intestine, we can train the immune system also through the consumption of certain substances that by their composition are similar to pathogen microorganisms, such as beta-glucans from yeast cell walls.
How do Wellmune® beta-glucans work in training the immune system?
The human body recognizes beta-glucans as foreign molecules (they are naturally present in algae, fungi and bacteria walls), which stimulates the immune system. Specialised cells in the epithelium/epidermis of the digestive tract bind beta-glucans and present them to cells of the immune system. This activates the cells of the congenital immune system, resulting in a constant readiness of the immune system. Cells activated in this manner react faster to eventual viral infections according to the vaccine principle. In a certain way, beta-glucans function as trainers of our immune system.

What is the role of vitamin D in the organism?Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Experts have discovered that vitamin D-binding receptors are located in the cells of various tissues all over the body, and can also be found in most of the cells of the immune system.
By binding to certain DNA sequences, vitamin D regulates the expression of genes that are important for the normal function of the immune system. This is exactly why optimal quantities of vitamin D in the blood are extremely important for the normal function of the immune system.
Our body is able to produce vitamin D itself, under natural sunlight, mainly in the warmest part of the year. However, despite this most Slovenian do not achieve a sufficient level of vitamin D during summer months, and in the colder part of the year this figure increases to 80%. That is why it is important that vitamin D is added also in the form of a food supplement when there is a vitamin D deficiency in blood.
What is the role of zinc?The mineral zinc is important for the function of the immune system and metabolism. According to research results, zinc is also necessary for DNA formation and cell division, and at the same time it also supports normal growth and development during pregnancy, childhood and youth. Zinc functions as a co-factor in numerous enzyme reactions which are necessary for a normal excretion of cytokines and chemokines and for the activation, differentiation and reproduction of cells of the immune system, mainly T-lymphocytes. Take the capsule with a glass of water, no less than half an hour before a meal.
